A few words about Strip Search Episode 10
I was already taken aback by the response to episode 9. I made many mistakes leading up to my elimination; I failed to consider the judge’s tastes in my answers, was ungracious in the face of critique, and dug myself a hole being over defensive. I stood by what I believed in, though, and instead of ridicule, I was met with an outpouring of support.
Today, however… Today I am blown away. I am flattered. I am humbled. I have to take breaks from reading all the feedback so I don’t cry! I never expected this.
As many of you already know, or have come to notice, I don’t really do strip or gag comics. In fact, I don’t really do comics at all! I used to, and sometimes I’m inclined to, but I often set those ideas aside in favor of illustration commissions or practice. Illustration is how I support myself, so it’s hard to take time away from actively pursuing and honing those skills.
The Cloud Factory, my comic-in-progress, will be illustrative as well; a long-form story comic, online graphic novel, whatever you want to call it. But seeing the decision-making footage for the first time and reading everyone’s reactions has really opened my eyes to the idea of doing more strip style vignettes. This comic was forged under circumstances I’ll never be able to duplicate, so I hesitate to promise any additional stories with those characters, but I’ll keep them close to me. Just in case.
The decision that faced Mike and Jerry was an incredibly difficult one, between two distinctly different art and joke styles, both successful in their own rights. Tavis is a skilled and accomplished cartoonist, dedicated and loving family man, and an amazing friend! I am proud to have done battle with him this day, and can’t wait to see what he does next.
Thanks again for all your support and kind words, and if you were on Team Lexxy, I hope you keep watching my friends!
